About the Journal

Connections is an annual academic publication led by the graduate students from the Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies at the University of Alberta. Established in 2019, this journal seeks to showcase innovative and interdisciplinary research that either challenges or reimagines normative approaches to applied linguistics, translation, comparative literature, media, and cross-cultural studies. Connections is committed to elevating the scholarly and creative voices of students engaged in research that crosses geographical, disciplinary, and political boundaries. Ultimately, this publication calls on authors to map the connections, wherever they may be.

Connections is seeking submissions for articles and creative works that take an innovative or interdisciplinary approach to applied linguistics, translation, comparative literature, media, or cross-cultural studies. We accept submissions that engage with meaningful discourses through various, dynamic formats, including:

-       Original Research Essay

-       Creative literature including narrative and poetry

-       Research-Creation projects in multimedia formats

*Note that Connections is inclusive to non-English submissions and our editorial team will employ every effort to locate appropriate reviewers. However, abstract and keywords must be provided in English for search purposes.

Editorial Policy

All manuscripts submitted for publication must be the original work of the submitting author and not currently under consideration by any other publication. Each submission will undergo a double-blind peer-review process by two distinct reviewers. All submissions will be reviewed by two reviewers from related disciplines. Connections is an open access publication that is committed to the free and accessible exchange of knowledge. There are no publication charges for authors.
